This Week @ 39 Serenity Place

Hi Everyone,

We are sad to tell you Jason W. passed away last Thursday April 25 in Burlington, Vt. His family has planned a Jamboree on May 17 at 2 pm at the American Legion. (The bar will be closed off from the Banquet Room. ) Some people wanted to plan a Celebration of his Life at the Clubhouse and we will do that as well. Details on this Celebration are not yet finalized. One of his Jason's paintings is hanging in the clubhouse TV Room. Danny L got him to sign the painting just last week so it won't be difficult to identify. We will enter that painting in the Art Show held at he Library in a few weeks. Thanks for that idea Sue B. Keep Jason's family in your prayers as they adjust to life without him. We are thankful to have Jason in our lives this past year and will miss him .. If you would like to leave comments about your time with Jason, we encourage you to do so on our website blog. 39serenityplace.com . If you have not yet signed up ,you will have to do that first.

Last week we had a very successful Pancake Breakfast fundraiser. We raised $200 .00 in empty bottles and cans and monetary donations. Thanks to John & Sue B donating the Breakfast supplies. About 40 people showed up and by request waffles were offered as well as the pancakes . Sue L. was shocked when half a dozen people showed up at 7:30 am for the Eggs and Toast Early bird Special!! Luckily Michael D. handled the orders easily while John B. handled the Waffles and Pancakes . It became so busy Michael had to make pancakes as well. Joe G assisted all day long, setting up , cleaning up and filling the food trays , bringing the bottles to the Redemption Center. etc. Also thanks to Carl C. for handing the coffee for the first hour and Sue B for coordinating set up all day long. People from the program came from Parishville, Canton, Potsdam,Norwood, Brasher Falls, etc. Then at Noon everyone went to the AA Meeting at St. Mary's Church . I almost forgot Heidi A. made the best home fries . We will definitely ask her to make this dish again.! Thanks for everyone for helping and to Lois J. for the idea!

The Next Day Back to Basics Started with about 12 people. The AA Meeting moved upstairs for the meeting and will do so again next week.We broke for lunch at 2pm and thanks to Joe G. dinner was ready on time. Joe G. made a great Spaghetti Dinner . Becki brought a Casserole and Salad, Willie M. made his famous salad and the Freedom Home brought two soups. The big surprise was the return of Ice cream Steve one more week...as long as the weather is cold Steve will bring the ice cream! Thanks to Jose for coordinating the Freedom Home soups. A Big thanks to Joe G. for all the cooking, set up, and clean up. He was a one man show all day. He even made the to go containers for a few folks. The rest of the day people worked on the Recovery Store, played cards and just sat around talking... It was a nice day with a lot of positive people... stop in some Sunday.. you might just enjoy yourself. Welcome to newcomers Brandi and Jim. It was also great to see Lori S., Suzanne, and Diane pop in .

We received a big surprise on Saturday when over two hundred dollars of great gifts were donated to the clubhouse for Mothers Day Raffles. Then on Sunday Divana & Anabel donated more wonderful gifts and on Monday another gift was donated by Jesse. T.'s sister. We are selling ten tickets or 5.00 or 1.00 a ticket. All of the gifts are beautiful. Purses , jewelry, and a lot more. We have had to move the gifts to a larger table we have so many... and the best part is..

this fundraiser just happened... Thanks to all the generosity and the commitment to the clubhouse to keep it moving forward.

Have you heard Becki B is moving to Ohio? She is trying to organize the Recovery Store before she leaves and last week Lois J and Diane G. volunteered to

take over the store. We hear they have some great ideas. Thanks Becki for all the hard work this past year and thanks to our new volunteers. The store is all torn apart right now but in a few weeks stop in to see the changes and new items. And there are Mothers Day Gifts and Cards up there as well. Becki put together more Baskets ..

On Monday Joe G. organized the plastic container closet. Lets try to keep it organized at least for a month month anyway !! Thanks Joe. Melissa or Resource person is back meeting with people so if you need an appointment contact Sue L. A big Thanks to Sue B. who is slowly becoming out new Liaison with other organizations in the area. Sue is bringing us valuable information on a weekly basis. Now to keep up!! We would also like to thank Rose Hill for their generous donation. . Great to see you at the meetings .
